Consultant engineers have been appointed on the Lough Key to Carrick-on-Shannon greenway project.
Minister Frank Feighan confirmed this week that Roughan & O'Donovan were successful in their tender application and it's hoped they will start their work early in 2023.
General Manager at Lough Key Forest Park Louise Fitzpatrick is welcoming the progress on the project.
She says the local tourist attraction has already benefited from the cycleway between the park and Boyle.
Louise is hopeful the added stretch of greenway will also boost the tourism offering in the area.
''It's another positive addition to all that's going on around Lough Ree and this area. We had the cycleway opened in 2020 linking Boyle to the park and that has been a brilliant addition. This is going to open up a whole other market of tourist and type of visitor as well as adding an extra activity that can be done while you're in the area with the aim that we're going to keep people longer in this part of the country so all good.''
