Roscommon County Council has approved special planning permission for a new HQ to be developed for the county's Civil Defence.
The Roscommon Municipal district this week approved Part 8 planning for the building on the racecourse road in the town, which is expected to cost an estimated two million euro to develop.
The new base will be able to accommodate all Civil defence vehicles as well as state-of-the-art training rooms, shower facilities, offices and lecture rooms.
It's hoped the centre can become a major resource for the entire Shannonside region, with Roscommon to become the latest county to move to its own purpose build accommodation.
Following the planning approval, it's expected that a contractor could be appointed as soon as early 2022 with the construction being complete within 12 months.
