Local Gardaí say the youth was attacked by four assailants at the Train Station at 3 o'clock on Saturday.

The incident took place in front of a number of members of the public

A female and two males aged in their 30s were detained at Garda stations in the North Western Region.

Local Gardaí investigating the alleged assault in the Ashdale area of Athlone town arrested a man in his 20s this week.

A man in his 50s was injured in the incident and brought to Beaumont Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The last ten years have recorded the highest number of women killed in decades.

A male in his 20s was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.

The boy sustained serious injuries and is currently being treated at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
