Workers at an Athlone manufacturing plant are waiting to hear if they'll be affected by significant job cuts announced by a locally based multinational company.
3M manufactures healthcare equipment such as facemasks at their facility in the Athlone IDA Business and Technology Park with several hundred employees on site.
The parent company yesterday announced plans to cut 6,000 jobs across its global operations.
The muliti-national corporation already saw over 2,500 jobs cut early this year, with the new losses described as part of a strategy to make the company "stronger, leaner and more focused."
It's not yet known if the company's Irish operations in Athlone and Dublin will be part of the global job losses.
