A local national school is moving from Catholic patronage to multi-denominational.
Cornamaddy national school in Athlone will transfer to the Longford Westmeath ETB to a become a multi-denominational community national school.
The decision was made after consultation with the school community and school authorities.
The reconfiguration process began last year with the transfer set to be completed in Quarter 1 of this year.
Minister for Education, Norma Foley, has welcomed the decision and believes it will allow for more diversity of provision in the area.
