An Athlone Green Party Councillor believes despite the lack of global agreements at COP27 efforts must be made to reach targets locally and nationally.
It comes following the UN's Secretary-General Comments which stated the conference did not do enough to address the need to reduce carbon emissions.
While Louise Heavin agrees she feels the loss and damage package, which will assist poorer countries being ravaged by climate impacts, should not be underplayed.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show the Green Party Representative says cop27 has brought great focus and awareness to the topic.
''I think just because it hasn't happened at COP 27 - global agreements, we should still be, setting our targets and trying to achieve them locally and nationally in Ireland and other countries who do see the merits of reducing our reliance on fossil fuel gas becoming fuel sovereign. So things are happening, all is not lost and we should hold on to that, driving that change forward as people.''
