A pop-up Covid-19 test centre in Athlone is to close its doors this week, as positivity levels drop in the region.
The centre has been in operation for the the last number of weeks at the former St Aloysius College and was opened following an outbreak of the Delta variant in the town last month.
The pop-up centre on the college grounds was set up to increase the testing capacity in the county following a number of cases linked to the Delta variant.
According to the HSE, the decision on the location of pop up testing centres is in taken on a weekly basis in association in Public Health experts.
The Athlone LEA currently has a 14-day incidence rate of 189, almost half the national average of 372, with 139 people tested at the centre yesterday.
In a statement to Shannonside news this afternoon, the HSE says the centre has fulfilled its purpose.
