A new economic strategy for Athlone has been launched by Roscommon and Westmeath County Councils.
The plan, jointly commissioned by both local authorities' sets out the blueprint for the economic development of the Midland's biggest town.
The strategy which was launched today at Athlone Civic Offices hopes to capitalise on Athlone's central location by attracting high quality talent, investors, businesses and tourists to the town.
The plan will be overseen by an Implementation Advisory Group and will also build on the town's designation as a Regional Growth Centre by the National Planning Framework.
Other targets includes a programme of initiatives to influence educational institutions as partners in creating a skilled workforce and knowledge economy.
While another aim is to create an environment where small businesses and entrepreneurs can thrive.
The partnership between Westmeath and Roscommon County Councils will continue in relation to the economic development of Athlone.
