Athlone Gardai issue warning to local retailers following cash incident

Gardai in Athlone are warning retailers to be mindful of counterfeit notes following an incident this week.

A man entered a premises in the town on Monday and asked for a large sum of cash to be broken down into smaller notes.

The retailer subsequently lost over 100 euro due to counterfeit money.

Gardai are reminding shop owners that they are not obliged to change cash for individuals.
