The ESB is working to restore power to 194 thousand homes, farms and businesses after Storm Ellen.

Severe flooding has been reported in West Cork with fallen trees and debris across the country.

Cork was one of the worst affected counties with gusts of 143 kilometres an hour recorded at Roches Point last night.

Athlone, Ballinalsoe and Longford are among the worst affected areas as crews work to restore power.

Five faults in Ballinasloe have resulted in almost 4500 customers being without electricity this morning and two major faults in Athlone resulting over 3,300 people without power -

Faults on the east and west side of Roscommon town have resulted in around 1500 customers without power this morning and just over 400 people are without power near Castlerea and 500 near Rathcroghan.

In Leitrim over 900 people remain without electricity in Drumshanbo, and over 600 near Leitrim village as well as 170 in Carrick-on- Shannon and 144 at Mohill.

Over 6,000 people are without electricity in County Longford, including 4,000 in the south of the county near Keenagh and Ballymahon,
and 1200 in Longford town as well as 300 in Drumlish.

Gardai are also urging caution in towns with traffic lights out in Roscommon and Athlone.
