HIQA inspectors have praised the relaxed and calm atmosphere at a nursing home in Athlone.
An inspection was carried out at Retreat Nursing Home in Bonnavalley in February of this year.
The centre provides long term care for up to 37 adults of all levels of dependency, including those with a diagnosis of dementia or cognitive impairment.
On the day of inspection, the centre had 35 residents present.
HIQA noted that staff clearly knew the needs of each person very well, with one resident saying that ''the staff are ''so caring'' and "you couldn't ask for better".
Residents also told the inspector that the food was of a very high standard and visiting arrangements were well catered for.
The centre has 17 single rooms and 10 twin rooms and those who spoke with inspectors were happy and content with their rooms, and felt that they had sufficient space to store their items.
The centre was found to be compliant or substantially compliant in all areas of inspection except in the area of medicines and pharmaceutical services.
Inspectors found certain medications were not given a date of opening and others left unlabelled.
In their response to the report, the centre says they have reminded staff of following best practice and procedures are in place to avoid further incidents.
