Plans are on schedule to have the new cycle and pedestrian bridge across the river Shannon in Athlone open to the public by the end of April 2023.
Work on the bridge was slowed by the freezing conditions before Christmas but Senior Executive Engineer Michael Kelly says the project is still on track for completion in the coming months.
The bridge was made in Seville in southern Spain and was transported to Ireland in 13 different sections, before being assembled at Wansboro Park in Athlone, and floated down the river in September.
It will span from the Radisson Hotel across to the Luan gallery with special walkway and ramps currently being built for access to the new structure.
The bridge will form a strategic link across the Shannon as part of the Dublin to Galway greenway.
Michael Kelly says works to the main bridge will take the next few months to complete.
