Two Local women have set an impressive record in a 32 km Lake Swim for Lough Ree RNLI.
Last Wednesday the two Athlone women swam from Lanesboro Bridge to the Athlone town bridge as part of fundraising efforts for the RNLI.
Serena Friel from Coosan and Karen Reynolds from Iona Park swam the entire length of Lough Ree, in 10 hours and 13 minutes raising over 6,000 euro.
The two women have been in training six times a week since the beginning of the year for the 'Lough Ree 32k Challenge'.
Serena and Karen crossed the finish line in Athlone to loud applause from the large crowds of well-wishers that gathered to congratulate the women on their daunting task.
