It's understood that the proposed by-pass of Carrick on Shannon will cross through the Attitroy and Cortober areas of the town.
Residents in the area are expressing their dismay after receiving letters today in advance of the public getting a look at the proposed route selection tomorrow.
Hundreds of submissions were received on plans to progress a major upgrade of the N4 between Carrick-on-Shannon and Dromod last year.
And after almost 12 months of designs and feedback, the selected route will be put on display to the public tomorrow.
However, 24 hours in advance of that event, residents in affected areas have received letters advising them that a 300-metre wide route corridor will pass near their homes before emerging back on the N4 in County Roscommon.
However, the 300-metre corridor is not an indication of the size of the road - but the space in which the road may proceed.
It is also expected that the by-pass will move just slightly away from Carrick-on-Shannon town centre itself
Leitrim County Councillors are receiving their own presentation on the project this afternoon before the public gets chance to see it tomorrow.
