The ESB has confirmed that the red aviation lights at the former Lough Ree power station in Lanesborough are to remain permanently switched off.
It follows concerns expressed by some people this week after the lights were turned off recently.
Some local residents say they are worried about the safety of the measure due to the height of the structure, and aircraft that may be flying in the area. A statement from the ESB this week says that they engaged with the Irish Aviation Authority about the lights and were advised that they were not required. It says the lights will not be switched on again.
