Roscommon County Council has confirmed Ballaghaderreen Library will not re-open until all necessary building works are completed.
In a statement they say they hope to have a conservation expert in place by the end of June and expect construction works to begin during quarter four of 2022.
The improvements include upgrades to fittings and furniture, disability access measures, the development of a dedicated space for teenagers and the installation of the My Open Library technical solution, which will proved automated self-service access from 8am-10pm, 365 days a year.
A silent protest took place earlier today in Ballaghaderreen calling for the resumption of services at the facility prior to works beginning.
Local TD Claire Kerrane believes the snail's pace action on the project has delayed the opening for another year.
