Ballagh swimming pool will still open by March, department hopes

A local TD says plans to re-open Ballaghaderreen swimming pool are not over despite the previous operator pulling away from talks.

The leisure centre in the Abbeyfield Hotel refugee centre was on the brink of reopening, after being closed in recent years.

But Ballaghaderreen Leisure Centre pulled out of negotiations with the owners this week, after failing to reach a deal.

Roscommon-Galway TD Claire Kerrane, from Sinn Fein, says department officials have told her they still hope to open the swimming pool by the end of March, despite the setback.
