It was announced earlier in the year that the library will not reopen until late 2024 with a temporary library to be opened until the works have been finished.

Sinn Féin councillor Michael Mulligan believes the new project, proposed by Roscommon County Council, is badly needed.

A planning decision on the project is due on the 14th of December.

A temporary library is to be opened in the town as the original library has now been closed for a number of years for essential works.

The plans look for 12 outdoor fitness machines to be installed on the site along with 12 six metre high public lighting columns.

The local school caters for close to 280 pupils however it was forced to turn away almost 60 students this year.
