Ballinasloe group vows to hold more protests over cancelled bus route

People are struggling with the changes to the bus service which stopped operating in August.

Campaigners hoping to restore a cancelled bus route in Ballinasloe have vowed to stage more protests to force action on the issue.

Last month just approximately 100 people protested in the town, after Bus Eireann cased operating the 20 and 20x services that linked Dublin to Galway.

A private operator has taken over the substantial route, but stops and service times have changed, which Ballinasloe Active Age retirement group member Padraig Lyons says has severally discommoded commuters, including trying to attend appointments at Portiuncula Hospital.

The 'Free Travel' pass is also not being accepted on the service, and Padraig claims that it is only now, as the winter approaches, that people are feeling the full effects of the bus Eireann decision.
