The chairperson of Ballintubber tidy towns says the community is delighted to recieve a national award today.
Several areas in the Shannonside region are celebrating after securing major honours at this year's competition
Keadue in Co.Roscommon won the regional award for the northwest region while Ballintubber took home first prize in the heritage category. Abbeyshrule and Carrick-On-Shannon won the county award for Longford and Leitrim respectively.
Athlone Canal Heritage and Kilteevan were also highly commended in the water and communities category. Other towns in the region including Dromod, Roscommon Town, Newtowncashel, Longford Town, and Cloontuskert all took home Bronze or Gold medals.
Eileen Kenny from Ballintubber explains how they received the heritage award.
"The heritage award entailed 3 different parts. There was the 'Looped Walk' and down Willsgrove Hall. They were well received. Then there was the castle and communities and the castle itself and all the projects we carried out on that. We're over the moon but like I said before, we're a hard working community here in Ballintubber and the Tidy Towns team work very hard to keep on top of everything".
Meanwhile Norma Duignan from Carrick-on-Shannon tidy towns says they're delighted to retain their gold medal.
"We love it. We're happy to share it with everyone but we're happy for ourselves as well. We're up 11 points which is a huge achievement because every point is hard earned. We're delighted. We have yet to go through the finer details of the results. So we need to go through that with a fine tooth comb and that will decide our plan for next year".
