Ballymahon councillor Pat O' Toole says he believes the development of the new off-street car park behind Supervalu in the town is a welcome move.
The Fianna Fail councillor was responding to concerns expressed by the Sli Na Mona residents association who say they believe the project is not exempted under the Part 8 planning process which was used by the council, and that it'll create traffic safety issues.
Councillor O' Toole says the matter was approved at a meeting of the council with the support of all 18 members during the summer and he believes it is a necessary project for the town.
He says it'll help resolve the loss of car parking spaces on the main street and traffic will be a lot calmer in the area when the new traffic lights and pedestrian crossing will be installed at Nally's Corner.
