A Longford principal says Leaving Cert students should be immensely proud of their achievements following a difficult two years.
Over 1600 students received results today in the Shannonside region with first round CAO offers to be made next Thursday.
There's been changes to the grading this year, with around 50 per cent of grades inflated in line with last year's record high results.
However Mick O'Rourke from Ballymahon Vocational School says this was expected and previously flagged by the Department.
The local principal says students have many options to explore.
'There's a huge number of options, there are more and more apprenticeships have come on line in the last couple of years, to meet that deficit of skill and that deficit of enhanced labour that's out there and that's needed in the economy, and then others will go on to more academic studies as well.
They've a very strong base coming from the likes of our school here in this town, and we're looking forward now to keeping tabs on them into the future.'
