A team of students from Ballymahon Vocational School have won a national award at the Young Social Innovators competition this week.
A project called "Slo Burn" put forward by the students took the overall prize in the Climate Action Category.
The Young Social Innovators scheme focuses on empowering Ireland's young people to reimagine the world and the communities they live in, by developing and implementing ideas that help create a fairer, more equal and sustainable world.
The judges citation for the award won by the Ballymahon students praised their passion about protecting bog land, and designing a means of creating an alternative fuel source to replace the use of turf in households.
