A significant chapter of Irish history is being commemorated in Longford today.
The 225th anniversary of the 1798 Battle of Ballinamuck celebrations kicked off in the North County Longford historical village last week and are due to continue until Sunday.
The commemoration consists of a variety of different free activities and events, including a music festival, live re-enactments of the battle, and ceremonies to remember the fallen Irish soldiers who fought in the county.
The battle is remembered for the Irish alliance with the French, and their ultimate failure to defeat the British in the bogland.
All of the weekend's events are free, excluding an entry fee for the activities taking place in the evening.
All are welcome.
