Paul Dempsey is leaving west Roscommon to become an Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin on May 26th, after heading the Achonry diocese for the past four years.

The outgoing Bishop of Achonry hit out at the negativity towards the Catholic Church at his final Mass in Ballaghaderreen yesterday.

Paul Dempsey is leaving west Roscommon to become an Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin on May 26th, after heading the Achonry diocese for the past four years.

He has also been the parish priest of Ballaghaderreen, and he was presented with gifts at his final Mass in St Nathy’s Cathedral yesterday.

Bishop Dempsey criticised the ‘prophets of doom’ about the Church during his homily – and elaborated on this afterwards.
