The Bishop of Elphin has denied suggestions that the government has overruled the health guidelines in allowing churches and places of worship to bring people together in numbers over 50 from next week.
It was announced yesterday evening that churches and other places of worship will be exempt from the 50-person indoor limit.
The rethink from the government followed sharp criticism from the Catholic church over recent days and it was said that many churches could easily accommodate far more than 50 people while still adhering to the two-meter physical distancing regulations.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show Bishop Kevin Doran said he had asked parishioners to get in touch with their public representatives about their concerns.
He also said he didn't think the government had overruled any health regulations in allowing places of worship to bring larger numbers of people together, and the churches won't be ignoring the guidelines either…
