Those taking to the water over the weekend are being warned of hazardous low-hanging wires on a popular local waterway.

Waterways Ireland have issued the warning after the obstruction was identified at Hartley Bridge between Carrick-on-Shannon and Leitrim Village.

The wires are currently hanging 1.5 metres under the bridge on the Southern side and will pose a risk to any vessels with high profiles.

Those using the waterway are urged to use extreme caution when navigating under the bridge.

Waterways Ireland have confirmed they are working with partners to resolve the situation as quick as possible.
