Cllr Tom Crosby claims Bord na Móna has sold over 80,000 tonnes of peat to a company in County Tyrone.

The mast measures 100 metres in height and is located at Lough Bannow Bog in Derrynaskea.

Nationally, close to 68,000 households still burn peat for warmth.

It was due to close down later this year.

Joe O' Brien, who runs a shop in the centre of Lanesboro says the area has been decimated in the last two years.

The peat burning station in Lanesboro was shut in 2020 following 62 years of electricity production.

Ten truck per day are removing peat from the bog to other locations across the country.

The fund available for projects to tap into has effectively been doubled.
