Bord na Mona is seeking a contractor to carry out preparatory works for a major wind farm in south Longford despite the planning application currently subject to a legal challenge.
The semi-state company has advertised via the e-tenders website for a firm to carry out tree felling and site clearance works for the controversial 24-turbine Derryadd windfarm project.
An Bord Pleanala approved the plans last summer before a local opposition group lodged a judicial review to examine the issue with a decision on the review expected to be delivered by the High Court before this summer.
According to the advertisement, Bord na Móna has made an application to Department of Agriculture for a tree felling licence and works will be initiated once a licence has been obtained.
It claims that the works will primarily consist of the felling and removal of trees and the clearance of scrub and vegetation to facilitate the development of the proposed wind farm.
The works will be located at the site entrances, internal roads, hardstands, turbine locations and other ancillary infrastructure as per the original planning application with the deadline for interested parties to submit their proposals by the 28th of this month.
