Bord Na Mona has confirmed that it is going to progress a new wind farm planning application for the Derryadd area outside Lanesboro.
It follows the company’s decision not to appeal a ruling against the development last year when the High Court said the level of details provided in the application wasn’t enough.
The proposal included plans for the erection of 24 major turbines with a tip height of 185 metres across disused bog lands.
Bord Na Mona says the development of a wind farm on the bogs will compliment other land uses within the site and across the Mount Dillon Bog Group, including the company’s peatland rehabilitation programme and ongoing amenity development in the area.
It adds the proposed wind farm will include key elements of the proposed Mid Shannon Wilderness Park in the form of amenity trails throughout the site.
