Bord na Mona has welcomed the decision to grant planning permission for over twenty wind turbines in south Longford.
The semi state company has been given approval to develop the windfarm in the Derryadd area - after a two year process was concluded with the green light from An Bord Pleanala this week.
In a statement to Shannonside FM, the company says it will carefully study the details of the decision which has been described as "mind-bending" by local Councillor Mark Casey.
County-wide politicians voted to oppose the project last year with the local authority itself claiming it was broadly in favour of the development, with some adjustments, during an oral hearing held 12 months ago.
It's been suggested that the local area will benefit from the project with workers employed in its construction but Councillor Casey rejects this idea.
