An Bord Pleanala has given the green light for the development of a slipway and turning area on the foreshore of Lough Allen.
An objection was lodged with the planning authority for the development at Spencer Harbour by a number of local residents.
Waterways Ireland had applied for planning permission in January 2019 for the development of a new small boat slipway and turning area on the foreshore of Lough Allen at the existing site of Spencer Harbour.
Planning was approved in February of last year subject to four conditions but this was subsequently appealed by two individuals to An Bord Pleanala.
They claimed the development would have an adverse impact on local amenities as well as local ecology and that the development could 'destroy the intrinsic value of Lough Allen' and that it would lead to increased traffic on the lake.
The inspector recommended that the planning permission be approved and the development was appropriate in scale and nature and would not impact on habitats or local amenities.
