A Leitrim Councillor is raising concern over the activities of 'boy racers' in the Carrick-on-Shannon area.
Finola Armstrong Maguire says it's a particular problem on weekend nights and she's called for Garda resources to be allocated to deal with the issue.
The local Fine Gael Representative claims the drivers of these type of cars are modifying their vehicles after passing NCT tests.
Speaking to Shannonside FM news Councillor Armstrong Maguire explained there was safety issues along with noise particularly between the hours of 1am and 4am.
'As you approach the town on all of the roads you see the rubber stamps made by cars going in circular directions.
I feel and I know that there is a safety risk with all of this, if you were coming along the road and you met these racers, your own safety is at risk as well as the boys and possibly girl who are driving these cars that are revamped.
The presence of a Garda on the bridge on a Friday or a Saturday night, watching for these cars would be well noted.'
