Boyle Abbey in Roscommon had their lowest visitor figures last year. That's according to new figures from the Office of Public Works.
Ireland's historic buildings and heritage sites are maintained by the Office of Public Works through the management of visitor services. Two heritage sites from Roscommon and Longford were included in this OPW report.
Figures from the OPW show that Boyle Abbey in Roscommon had 8,000 less visitors in 2022 than in 2021. With 6,425 people making the trip last year in comparison to 8,325 in 2021.
In Longford, there was an increase of 1,000 more visitors last year to Corlea Trackway in Kenagh than in 2021. With 11,430 people making the trip last in comparison to 10,2023 in 2021.
Over 18 thousand people visited the two heritage sites in the Shannonside region last year. Nationally, there was an increase of 18% on visitor numbers, with Kilkenny Castle being the most popular attraction.
