Councillors in the Boyle Municipal area are set to hold pre-meeting discussions today to decide whether to give support current proposals for the Public Realm Enhancement Scheme in Boyle.
The plans include the redesign of the Crescent, with enhanced amenity areas, the redesign of paved areas along Bridge Street and
Shop Street, enhancement at Boyle Bridge and the redesign of the public car park adjacent to the Post Office.
During the recent public consultation process, while supporting the general redevelopment of Boyle town, a number of traders and businesses in the town have voiced strong opposition to the loss of some car parking spaces in the Crescent area, which they say will damage footfall.
They have met with local councillors who are liaising with planners and council management to see if a compromise can be reached.
Elected members will receive a final report from the Chief Executive today ahead of their Municipal District meeting this afternoon.
They're to meet before the formal meeting to discuss if they will give it green light, which is required if a funding application is to be submitted by early December.
The enhancement scheme for Elphin will also be discussed today but Shannonside News understands that has generated little controversy.
The official meeting gets underway at half-past two.
