Castlerea’s Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan has been re-elected as a MEP.
The Roscommon politician exceeded the quota on the 19th count, with 118,754 votes.
The quota in the five-seat constituency is 113,325.
Afterwards, Ming told our reporter Eoghan Murphy it was the "sweetest victory" of his political career.
Fine Gael’s Maria Walsh and Nina Carberry’s and Fianna Fáil’s Barry Cowan are on course to take seats and are likely to be elected without reaching the quota.
The final seat is a battle between Ballyleague/Lanesboro man Ciaran Mullooly and Sinn Fein’s Michelle Gildernew.
Mullooly is now in pole position to take the seat, leading the Tyrone woman by 3,796 votes.
Before Aontu leader Peadar Toibín votes were distributed, Gildernew was leading by almost 1,700 votes after she got 21,000 transfers when her running mate, Chris McManus, was eliminated, while Mullooly got only 1,200.
But Toibín's transfers went in the Longford man's favour, as he gained over 10,000 votes and Gildernew got less than 5,000.
Fianna Fáil Senator Lisa Chambers has now been eliminated and her party colleague, Senator Eugene Murphy, believes they will also go in Mullooly's favour.
