Brigids And Boyle Seal Group Wins

St. Brigids claimed top rights in group A of the Hotel Kilmore Roscommon senior football champions as Boyle claimed top spot in group C.

St. Brigids produced a straight forward 3-17 to 1-12 win over Elphin to make it two wins from three and eventhough Clann na nGael had three point win over Strokestown, Brigids top group A on score difference.

Brigids led 1-7 to 1-6 at half-time, Brian Stack converting a 21^st minute penalty after Elphin’s Brennan Kelly scored a 14^th minute goal.

Brigids were rampant in the second half scoring 2-10 with both goals coming from Brian Derwin who contributed 2-5, to seal victory for Brigids.

Meanwhile Clann na nGael had things all their own way against Strokestown winning out 17 points to 1-6.

Daniel Rogers scored an early second half goal to make it a one point game, Clann having led nine points to five at the break.

The goal didn’t rock Clann who added four unanswered points before winning out by seven points. The margin of victory see’s Brigids win the group on score difference and Clann advance as runners-up.

In group C, Boyle dismantled Michael Glavey’s to win group C after Tulsk scored a surprise victory over county champions Padraig Pearses.

Boyle led 11 points to four at the break, being totally dominate in the first-half, Donie Smith’s second half goal sealing rubbing salt in the Glavey’s wounds as Boyle won out 1-15 to seven points.

Meanwhile Tulsk Lord Edwards scored a surprise one point win over Padraig Pearses 1-11 to 1-10.

Hubert Darcy’s late penalty seemed to have set a share of the spoils, but a late Tulsk point sealed the win. The victory however only ensured that Boyle would win the group and advance to the quarter-finals.

Elphin and Michael Glavey’s must now wait until tomorrow to see who will claim the best third place finisher and not be involved in a quarter-final play-off.
