A Leitrim Councillor believes there is a serious risk to life in the county as a result of broken or missing defibrillators
At the February meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon M.D, Des Guckian called on the Community First responders to reinstate several of the life-saving machines no longer working in the area.
He claimed that in the parish of Gortletteragh, there had been up to nine of the machines but now only two were working.
The equipment normally costs up to €1500 to purchase but Councillor Guckian feels that outside help may be required in communities where the machines have fallen into disrepair.
He outlines a frightening incident for one family in south Leitrim in recent years when they found a nearby defibrillator was not working.
