Bus Eireann has received the go ahead for the installation of equipment to allow the charging of the provider's new electric buses at its Athlone depot.
The public transport body applied to Westmeath County Council for the development of a new substation, electrical building and associated ductwork for the renewable infrastructure.
The equipment will be installed at the Bus Eireann Maintenance Centre on the Station Road in Athlone.
The application was granted with 3 conditions including a developer contribution to the planning authorities and a moratorium on works after 7pm on weekdays and 1pm on Saturdays.
