The crash occurred along the old Athlone to Moate road near Killogeenaghan and it's expected the road will remain closed until 3pm this afternoon.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or any road users with dashcam footage to come forward.

The appeals are in reference to decisions on the School Transport Scheme, which provides free school bus places to children.

Nationally over 121,500 tickets for mainstream school transport compared to 107,000 tickets for 2021/2022 academic year.

The area is still served with a Local Link service.

The young adult must apply for a Leap Card to benefit.

Several people were left stranded in Longford as a result of the issue.
