A local Councillor is calling for a discussion on the burning of bushes on a national level.
The issue came before the most recent meeting of the Athlone Municipal District.
Councillor John Dolan argues that regulations surrounding the burning of bushes are leaving people with no alternatives to dispose of cuttings
He says that the Minister for Agriculture and the Minister for the Environment need to make changes to help farmers.
'They are going to write for the Minister of Agriculture and the Minister for the Environment.
At the end of the day it is the Minister for the Environment, Eamonn Ryan who is going to have to make this decision.
I think the key thing is to find out the problems we have at the ground level trying to farm with these regulations.
They don't make any sense and In my view they are written be people who don't understand farming.'
