The imminent opening of the N4 upgrade between Collooney and Castlebaldwn has thrown the Mullingar to Rooseky section into sharp focus once again according to Longford councillor Seamus Butler

A group which campaigned successfully on the N4 upgrade between Mullingar and Rooskey some years ago is to be re-formed in an effort to have the project fast-tracked.

The group was comprised of nine Chambers of Commerce from Longford, Roscommon, Leitrim, Westmeath, Sligo and Mayo.

It met with the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport in 2017 to highlight the need to upgrade the route after the project was cancelled in 2010 due to the recession.

Public consultation began once again on the project last year and a preferred option is due to be announced before the end of this year.

Longford councillor Seamus Butler says while the imminent opening of the 14 kilometre stretch of the N4 between Collooney and Castlebaldwin, and progress on other routes in the region is very welcome, it also puts the need for the Mullingar to Rooskey section into sharp focus again.
