Over 100 active targets across the Shannonside Northern Sound region have been identified by the Criminal Assets Bureau. The figures come from the Garda Division's recent per-county breakdown. The Criminal Assets Bureau carries out investigations into individuals who are suspected of withholding assets acquired through criminal means. Since 1996, the bureau has seized over €174 million in taxes and €6.5 million in social protection recoveries.
The Roscommon-Longford area holds the highest number of currently active target cases, at 79, followed by Cavan and Monaghan at 21. Sligo-Leitrim currently holds the lowest figure, at 10 detected targets.
