A Roscommon councillor is calling for the focus to shift onto the towns that will be bypassed by the upgraded N5 Ballaghderreen to Scramogue route now that the tender is about to be awarded.
Cllr Tom Crosby says the lack of development of the route over the last 25 years has hampered development up through the centre of the county and now that advance works are underway, it's time to act.
Addressing this month's meeting of Roscommon County Council, the Tarmonbarry councillor says whatever can be done to promote the towns of Frenchpark, Bellanagare, Tulsk and Strokestown must be done.
Cllr Crosby also called for good and proper signage to be put in place so the towns could be promoted from an economical, historical and tourism point of view.
The final tender for the 200 million euro 34 km single carriageway road development is now due to be awarded , subject to Covid19 protocols.
