Longford's lack of tourist accommodation should be tackled with B&Bs, not hotels according to one local councillor.
The lack of overnight accommodation in the county was raised following a Failte Ireland presentation to members of Longford County Council.Cathaoirleach of Longford Municipal District, Gerry Hagan called for more to be done to support the creation of new B&Bs and guesthouses.Addressing the Head of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands, Paddy Matthews, Councillor Hagan called for more supports to encourage home owners to consider entering the accommodation sector.
Speaking to Shannonside FM news following the meeting, the Town Cathaoirleach says its a shorter and more feasible solution to the significant local problem.
'I certainly remember and recall the days, not that long ago, where you'd drive down the Dublin road in Longford and you'd see a series, a number of , Bord Failte green shamrocks outside houses , Bord Failte approved was the sign that you noticed and there was ready made accommodation of a very good standard.
My point was, I wanted to encourage Failte Ireland to invest, put more funding into this area of accommodation.'
