Longford County Council is being called on to develop a Business Enterprise Park in each of it's three municipal districts.
The issue was raised at this weeks meeting of Longford County Council following a motion made by Councillor Gary Murtagh calling on the local authority to acquire land for the development of a business park within the county.
However, following a response from officials stating that the council does not possess a land bank properly zoned for such a park, Councillor Peggy Nolan stated the local authority should seek these lands for the development of enterprise parks in each of Longford's three municipal districts.
Councillor Nolan described the creation of the parks as a surefire way to facilitate job and business growth in the midlands.
The call received support from other local representatives, with Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council Paul Ross requesting a formal motion be lodged for the body's next meeting.
Speaking to Shannonside FM news after the meeting, Councillor Nolan says sites need to be identified before major employment opportunities are missed.
