A Longford Councillor is seeking the demolition of a well known former retail business currently in ownership of the council.
The former providers building on Main Street and Richmond Street in the Town has been vacant for over ten years.
Councillor Gerry Hagan is calling for the demolition of the building to allow space for road and pedestrian safety works on neighbouring streets.
Richmond street currently has just one path along the side of Providers with no pedestrian path for over two hundred metres on the opposite side of the road.
The Fine Gael Councillor says the street is currently a major safety issue:
Councillor Hagan wants to see all or part of the building torn down to allow the Camlin Quarter Project to be moved forward.
He believes the left over space could be used as an outdoor public amenity.
