A Longford councillor is calling for a derelict Granard building to be transformed into a county museum.
Turlough McGovern has urged the council to conduct a viability study on the former Matthews site in the north Longford Town.
He believes the building should be looked at under Rural Development funding with a view towards purchasing it and transforming it to an exhibition and gallery centre.
Many cultural and archaeological artifacts in the care of Longford County Council are currently being held in storage.
Councillor McGovern made the call at this months meeting of the Granard Municipal District and believes it would help boost regional tourism
