A Longford Councillor is calling for a dedicated off road mountain bike trail in the county.
Paul Ross believes funding should be allocated for the route at Newcastle Forest in Ballymahon.
The Fine Gael Representative says this is a fast growing sport and the provision of the trail would be low cost.
Speaking to Shannonside FM Councillor Ross explained the benefits this would also have on the county's tourism offering.
'It's a tourism product we can have in the area.
If people were coming for a short stay to Ballymahon, they could stay another day or two to use the likes of these trails.
It's important that we enhance what we already have, and something like this which is dedicated, which is safe for moutain bikers to use.
There is a great demand for this fast growing sport nationally.
The cost of making the trail is really negligible, because you're really only signposting a dedicated area for the bikes to go because you wouldn't even be putting down hardcore.'
