A Leitrim Councillor is calling on the HSE to provide a respite centre in South Leitrim.
At present, patients must travel to Tullaghan in the north of the county which Cathaoirleach Paddy O'Rourke believes is totally unacceptable.
He is now asking that the Health Service Executive make a property adjacent to St. Patrick's Hospital in Carrick-on-Shannon readily available.
However the HSE has previously stated that adequate respite care is being provided in the county.
The Carrigallen native disagrees stating that the provision of such facilities is a necessity and long overdue.
